Former NEDA Chief delivers his first 2013 Economic Forecast in LGC
By admin on February 27th, 2013
The Lina Group of Companies (LGC) hosts the first 2013 Economic Forecast of former NEDA (National Economic and Development Authority) Chief Dr. Cielito F. Habito. Key executives of the LGC graced the occasion on 17 January 2013 at the LGC headquarters in Parañaque City.
In his talk, Dr. Habito looked back on the factors that caused Philippine economic turbulence between 2003 and 2009. Such challenge was brought by tight fiscal situation, inadequate infrastructure, weak investment, and small and narrow industrial base. With these, it resulted in the rise of poverty, decrease in elementary school participation, and malnutrition especially in outskirt provinces.
With 2010 as turning point for the private domestic investment in the Philippines, a dramatic improvement propelled among the six major industries and a few from other growing sectors. These industries include: manufacturing, infrastructure (road and airport link and improvement), agriculture and agribusiness, tourism, business process outsourcing, mining, and other industries such as the creative industry and shipbuilding.
The economic forecast magnifies that our country now grows as one of the breakout nations in Asia just like Turkey and Indonesia where the government and the private sector are increasingly becoming proactive in ensuring economic prosperity.
The growth of Philippine economics calls its citizens to take part on this change. The most vital of all are electing the proper officials of all levels, stabilizing and strengthening the economy through diligent tax paying and patronizing local commodities, and educating fellow Filipinos on how to prosper their own source of income.
Looking forward, Dr. Habito forecasts that in a few decades, the Philippines will be one of the top economies due to its manpower advantage. In terms of poverty, he suggested to “let the people themselves point out their problems and help them find the solutions.”
As an industry that serves majority of the Philippine industries, the Lina Group of Companies have understood further on how each company can better serve the needs and demands of its clients. Better strategies, better routing, and better advocacies can be addressed since the growing and stabilizing sectors are eyeing for service providers that can respond precisely and on time.
